docente responsabile

Alberto Calderoni is a young-motivated researcher and architect in practices. In 2010 he obtain his master degree in architectural and urban design developing his thesis-project during a study period abroad (New York City) coordinated by Prof. Arch. Ferruccio Izzo and Prof. Arch. Jonathan Marvel (The New School Design, Parson). The topic of the project was the design of a tall building in the dense urban fabric of New York. In 2011 he won a scholarship at the University Ph.D. School of Naples “Federico II” in Architecture. During his research period is tutor at the Post-gradued Master course in Design for the Historic City, coordinated until 2013 by Prof. Arch. Benedetto Gravagnuolo and then by Prof. Arch. Ferruccio Izzo. The Master course aims to provide the expertise needed to plan, design, manage and carrying out interventions and complex realization of new architecture in historically stratified urban areas. He was invited to several foreign Universities as a visiting critic in architectural and urban design studios. His Ph. D. research was focus on a linguistic analysis of architecture looking for those communicative invariants suitable for the transmission of values and shared meanings. Calderoni intensively studied about critical-interpretative phenomena of architecture and city. In the PhD program he was also involved in educational activities collaborating in architectural design courses both in the graduate program in architecture and in the engineering master course in Naples. He was responsible for two cycles of seminars at University of Naples “Federico II” whose central theme was the spatial analysis and the linguistic decoding of built architecture: the idea that the building is master for the cultural and technical education has proposed a analytical methodology through the realization of interpretative physical models at different scales. Outcome of these seminars was an exhibition opened in the presence of the director of the international magazine Domus Prof. Arch. Nicola Di Battista (29.01.2014).

He was member of the Neapolitan unit research in the National Research Programm PRIN 2009-2013 “Paesaggi dell’archeologia, regioni e città metropolitane”. He developed part of the research experimenting interpretive methodologies and design strategies in the historical center of Pozzuoli (NA): dense city made up of a complex mixture between the results of the post-war territorial planning and a great presence both of fragments and relevant archaeological areas. This experience, conducted through a number of workshops, conferences and workshops held in various Italian universities, has produced two volumes published by Quodlibet. Since 2010 he work continuously researching with an integrated and multidisciplinary approach and favoring both theoretical considerations and practical experience as in the project for the urban and architectural redevelopment of Santa Chiara hospital complex (international design competition won by David Chipperfield and Alberto Izzo & Partners) and in the project for the regeneration and redevelopment of public spaces of the areas of Madison Square Garden in New York (international short-listed competition for David Chipperfield Architect London). Recognized as a researcher of the historical city Alberto was invited by the Dean of the Unitec Auckland Tecnhical University, Prof. Arch. Tony Van Raat, as a visiting professor in 2015. He taught architectural and urban design in two studios. In 2016, in addition to participating in several international conferences he is adjunct professor of architectural and urban design in the Bachelor Programm at the Department of Architecture of the University of Naples “Federico II". In 2018 he granted the National Scientific Habilitation (ASN) for the role of Associate Professor in Architectural Design (08/D1).
